Artist Spotlight: Sitji Chou
What do you do for a day job?
For my 9-5, I am an animator for the wonderful folks at Giant Ant.
How did you get your start?
I’ve always loved drawing when I was a child, but I probably became more motivated when I was validated for it in Grade 1 by people who liked my Dragonball Z and Sailor Moon drawings, and now here I am.
What are some of your early influences that got you drawing?
Besides anime, manga and Sanrio characters, I loved Disney movies. Little Mermaid was/is my favourite and it made me want to become an animator.
What’s some advice you’d wish you’d gotten when you were starting out?
Finish what you’re working on, even if it’s not perfect. It’s better than not starting at all because you worry it won’t be perfect. Also, work ethic is more important than natural talent, so make your creative practice a habit.
What’s your tool of choice for making images?
I draw on my cintiq a lot but I just got an Ipad and it’s amazing. It let’s me be more flexible with where and how I’m drawing. For desktop, i use photoshop a lot with kyle’s brushes, and for ipad, I’ve only tried procreate but it’s pretty good!
