Artists Spotlight: Sarah Kieley
Sarah is often lost in her imagination.. When she isn’t drawing, she can be found watching old movies, listening to podcasts or going on adventures! She makes comics, Illustrations and works full time doing Visual Development in the Animation Industry.
What do you do for a day job?
I work doing development and design for animation. It’s a lot of fun developing and building upon interesting styles to help build the world of a film or show. Do you have a personal project that you’re stoked on? I have a few in the works, but I am just getting back into an Anna & Blitz comic that I’ve been roughing out for about a year. Sarcastic girls, space bears and weird adventures, what’s not to be stoked on?
What recharges your creative batteries when burnout creeps in?
I am a person who finds it very hard to take a break, but that also results in me hitting burnout head first. Usually I will do a study or mindless doodle to help keep myself drawing without having to think! I also love to read, and tend to go back to the Harry Potter series when my brain needs comfort.
What’s your tool of choice for making images?
Definitely photoshop, but I have a special place in my heart for sketching with paper and a pencil.
Anything new debuting at the market that you’d like to tell us about?
This is actually my first market EVER! I’m extremely excited to see my work in print form. I am currently working on a short comic that I am hoping to get risograph printed in time for the festival. Fingers crossed!!
Do you listen to anything while you work? What is your go-to?
I do, my go to are definitely podcasts and audio books. My current favourite podcast, My Dad Wrote a Porno, has me struggling not to burst out laughing at work!
