Silence is not an option.

While we as individual Directors have been vocal on our own personal social media accounts about recent events, we believe that it is necessary to make a statement as an organization. Silence is not an option.

The police violence against Black bodies, peaceful protesters, and neutral observers has us sickened and angry. We at ArtBreakers unequivocally believe that Black lives matter. We stand with the victims of murder, violence and systemic racial oppression and those who are fighting for justice through protest right now. We stand against the cult of white supremacy and police brutality. Facism and racism have no place in our community or anywhere.

We also cannot ignore what is happening here in Canada. White supremacy exists and has a history here, in the destruction of Hogan’s Alley, in Residential Schools, in generational trauma and genocide. Police in Canada continue to disproportionately arrest, harm, and kill Indigenous and Black people.

It is one thing to denounce injustice, and another to do the hard and complicated work of dismantling the systems that foster it. We are committed to that work, both within ourselves and our community. We hope you will join us.
